IRO adds style to coastal town

Andy Hodge, from Burnham on sea, Somerset has added character and finesse to his garden through IRO decking. Creating a high-quality, stylish area to enjoy soaking up the summer sun and relaxation across all seasons.

Andy said: “I’m a fan of timber decking and already have a decked area in my garden which has elevated my leisure area, creating a warm and natural area to relax. However, there was an area of my garden that was missing something. I wanted this space to be filled with a high quality, stylish product. I knew that IRO would perfectly fill that space as soon as I saw it.”

Each and every piece of IRO architectural decking is created by combining the ancient Japanese process of Yakisugi with the latest timber technology. The result is a beautiful and uniquely coloured decking timber.

Vibrant colours such as lagoon blue and sunset orange allow the creation of bolder aesthetics too. However, in keeping with the seaside surroundings of his home, Andy chose to opt for a nautical and more classic colour, driftwood. He tells us: “The colouring was exactly what I was looking for. I am very lucky to live in a coastal town so the local environment and culture lends itself very nicely to the look and feel of driftwood. The driftwood look suits my home and enhances the feeling of wellbeing.”

In addition to being a low-maintenance but long-lasting alternative to traditional decking, IRO architectural timber is UV stable and 100% HVOC-free, meaning the product is both child-friendly and pet-friendly.

Andy continued: “Like all timber decking it is very easy to install. Timber has a high strength to weight ratio so it’s easy to work with and easy to cut to size and shape. You can be very creative with IRO as it cuts and screws very well. The surface coating is tough and durable so is not affected during construction, and as it is already coloured there’s no need to wait for dry weather to stain it; it’s ready to enjoy and appreciate instantly.

“I would certainly use IRO again. I have every confidence it will look attractive for many years.”

Neil Horton, national sales director at IRO Timber, said: “IRO decking is a unique range that’s designed to add charm and character to a range of outdoor spaces. It’s great to see IRO continually being used in different surroundings. This shows how versatile the product truly is as it works well in every environment.”

Manufactured in Britain using a seven-step process which includes two stages of kiln drying as well as heat enhancement, makes the product more resilient to rot and insect attack. High pressure treatment and the application of a protective wood cream ensures that IRO decking is a vibrant product with a longer-lasting, water-repellent surface to be enjoyed now and well into the future.
